why I wonder

Why, I wonder
does "-ass" predominate
as a suffix, while "butt-"
abuts so much more naturally
to the front?

"That's some mild-ass sauce," I tasted.
"M." she concurred. "Indeed. Butt-mild." 

But you'd never say it the other way.
