false recovery

Childhood recipe
half-remembered,
except the effect
so clearly held.
You begin in mind
to focus and stretch,
identify, reconstruct

the spell. Ingredients
only a part of this.
The order of steps, the
proportions you give

generous, now parsimonious
then, review the result

of the time you spend. It
isn't the same, but it will be
though. You'll gather around
a crowd so close, and reveal
to them what went into you

to make you so bitter, and sweet
and salt, just like they'll always

remember you, whenever they celebrate
or rue.
