ice cold water

Fill the front part of my throat
with ice cold water running down
in constant stream and gulp and gulp
and gulp until the pain of chill
outweighs the pain of thirst I found.
Keep swallowing, to prove a point. How much
I love you, thirsty friend! I let you
thirst insanely on. So here's
relief in stabbing cold
to throb down throat
to stomachache,
so let it end.
