"Pleasures in prospect"

"I am willing to forego many pleasures,"
I reflected, absent-minded, as I do "To
enjoy the enjoyment of others not deprived
thereby." Truth, in a present meditation
on the beauty
of the orange juice, cold
from the fridge, disappearing
almost all but the jigger's-worth
of a big half-bottleful
into my huge glass.

Then, wryly
(as I often am)
returned to some semblance
of mindfulness, making off

innocently
with the evidence.
