we never did make it to Vegas
like we always talked about as a joke
for me at least, it was always a joke
but I like jokes, though
I would have liked to go
as a joke
on you and me,
and we sure would have laughed
up a storm as the dry heat and towering sky
walked past
on lightning legs
shedding not one drop
upon the gravel, for us
peals of thunder on dust
like echoing laughter
at judgments
unjust
