fulfillment fleeting yet replete

Food that doesn't feed the soul
is junk no matter what it holds
in calories and vitamins.
Deliciousness redeems all sin
in raptures, transports, sense
memory. We're carried places
by our tongues, and languages
come in last place, compared
to what our mouths learn from
each lesson, tentative or bold
we dive into, or back away
then dip into. Discovery
unfolds in us, and makes

a place to stay.
