our mutual confusion

I liken us
to algae and fungi.
Alone we can
survive, even thrive.
But together we
leap into spiraling forms,
reaching and climbing far beyond

what either could dream to grasp,
exploiting new niches,
becoming new life.

Together, we
are stuck fast.
