false idol

you idolize yourself too much
it's hideous, that thing you put
up on its dirty pedestal
I wish you'd see the thing we have
erected in our minds to you,
upon a column, burning white
which you yourself have set upright
its marble gorgeous, perfect, flawed
as you have made yourself revealed
and no, we do not worship you.
We hold you in a sort of awe.
We just see you as we have seen,
we just see you how you have made
yourself belong: our point of view

you idolize yourself all wrong.
