fiercely fought

fiercely fought,
to the end, and since
we continue to find without evidence
some bare pretext
to pursue this case -
long after the spoils have all gone to waste,
long after there's nothing to fight over
or for

but it's damages, now:
and we both want more.
Because nothing was fair in love,
we want war.

With no end to the game but to score
and score.
