hail and goodbye

A rain of stinging pellets, hard
upon us from each side, begun
in sudden chance of rushing course
well-met sincere in gilt remorse:
it's been too long, we'll say, well say.
Until we meet again, someday!
But neither now can linger here.
This day drives us apart, too bright
and clear.
