up ante

One time we
(you and I: to be
clear) wasted whole
afternoons playing video
games. We did it with casual
zeal and elan, not a jot
of regrets, no guilt,
no shame.
It was head-to-head
fights, with big bets staked

You kept letting me win,
'cause you liked the take

and I knew it was rigged,
but I'd claim just the same
with a cock-of-walk strut
to my big brag frame
