the scandal of expectation

Expectation is the thief
of gratitude and wonder; the mother
of entitlement; the uncle and midwife
of resentment and betrayal - those vile

dissatisfaction, and dejection; and
the twice-murderer of hope: first
shoved from a height,
then stabbed in its

sleep.
