bird flown home

bird flown home and
gathered in

a flock of strays
all different feathers
rushed embrace

all beaks and wings
of different lengths

"where have you been?
so good

you're back

You're home again"

with one cocked eye
intent, intense
bird checks the sky,
the clouds, the wind,
decodes, decides:

"I'm home again,"
