Welcome to the house of fleas
The people start with downcast
eyes upon you noticing the bite
or scratching it with offhand might,
and no one mentions anything.
It's understood the people here
have tried, and can do nothing
now
about the fleas
who call this house
their home, well-stocked
with beings, blood -
and other chic necessities.
