the delver

She fell asleep in his arms,
and passed right through
and into him, and the bed
was like a swimming pool
of inky black.

She spread out into it
and stretched as colors came
in round, from back
behind, made scenes
of where she'd never been
in years -

- she waited there to find
what she came for. The sky
had cleared. The details
set. She looked around
for him, in case
he'd be a part of it
tonight. He wasn't there,
so she sat down in grass

to look some more. The grass
was wet, the light
amazed. The world was
new. Let's

drift ashore,
and stray.
