a moment before the music begins,
the crowds have all parted
and ordered themselves into mismatched twins.
And you and I regard them with amusement,
in slow glances, and each other
in glances caught and stolen. There is
no intent, in a moment like this
We're there on the floor,
but it's not too late
to go. The door,
because it is there,
calls. A moment before
the music begins,
it ends. From opposite ends of the hall,
the exits
have pulled us apart
again.
